Spiritual Disciplines

I would like to take just the next few moments and talk to you about spiritual disciplines that every believer should do consistently. The Bible talks about walking daily with the Lord and to pray without ceasing. How does that work and what does that mean for us today in this day and age? That means that there must be some characteristics and habits that every believer does habitually as a habit and that habit then become pattern for our lives.

Every single morning as a kid I remember waking up and when my grandfather was in town I will find him on the same chair in the living room everyday with the same book that was the Bible. My grandfather has read the Bible everyday early in the morning for as long as I can remember and as long as I have been alive and way before I was even born. That is a habit that my grandfather has formed and that has brought him closer to God.

I believe in the importance of habitual prayer and reading that will bring you closer to God. Jesus died on the cross for our sins so that we could be saved and He wants to continue that relationship with us by speaking to us through the reading of His Word “The Bible” and also through prayer. I believe in the power of God´s Word and in the power of prayer.

Another discipline that I do during the week, every single week is I take my journal and I write out thoughts. May be the Lord will speak to my heart and my mind and I will take a few moments to write out what the Lord is saying through His word or in prayer. He might give me something special about that day or something special to say to my wife and to my children.

I want to encourage you; you are a believer to take some time and read God´s Word, pray and find a journal or notebook that you can write down the thoughts that the Lord might give you. Years from now you can look back and say; that was the day when Lord spoke to me through that discipline. God bless you.
