Seven Sayings of Jesus on the Cross

1

When Jesus was nailed on the cross He said, ‘Father, forgive them, because they don’t know what they are doing.’

2

Jesus was crucified between two thieves, one of whom supports Jesus’ innocence and asks him to remember him when he comes into his kingdom. Jesus replies; Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.

3

Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple standing near whom he loved, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold your son”. Then he said to His disciple, John, “Behold your mother”. And from that hour, he took his mother into his family.

4

About three o’clock in the afternoon, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?”, which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

5

Then Jesus said, “I´m thirsty.”

A jar of sour wine was standing there, so they put a sponge full of the wine on a branch of hyssop and held it to his mouth.

6

After Jesus had taken the wine, he said, “It is finished.”

7

Jesus cried out with a loud voice and said, “Father, into your hands I entrust my spirit.” After he said this, he breathed his last.
