Why was a woman chosen by God in order to conceive Baby Jesus?

Hello and welcome to another segment with Jesus Christ for Muslims. Today we are addressing questions that have been sent to us that we might answer them to the best of our ability and we are going to try to do that with all the inspiration that the Holy Spirit gives us to answer these questions. I confess I do not know it all but I think that the Holy Spirit has given me answers to help you understand these questions that you are asking as an audience and the question that we are going to address at this moment is why did God have to have a sexual relationships with a woman in order to bring a baby in this world. If God is that powerful He could create a baby from many other sources or ways then why conceiving a baby through his Holy Spirit and that is a very good question and it is a very profound and deep question and it is a viable question that people have. But the word of God tells us in Hebrews 4:12 that “the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow, it exposes our innermost thoughts and desires”. So I truly believe that the Holy Spirit and the word of God allow us to answer this question so let us address this question with a Biblical perspective.

First of all, I want to make very clear that God did not have sexual relationships with Mary, let us get that clear, ok! God did not have sexual relationships with a woman, He never did, He never has, and He never will, this is something He created for man here on earth not for something from a divine person into someone here from this world.

We read before in Isaiah 7:14 that says, “the virgin will conceive a child”. Women are virgins because they haven’t had sexual relationships and Mary was a virgin and the bible says in Luke 1:34 & 35 “Mary asked the Angel but how can this happen I am a virgin” and that was a good question Mary had. “How am I going to have the Son of God if I am a virgin, I don’t know man, I haven’t had sexual relationships and the Angel replied “The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the most high will overshadow you. So, the baby to be born will be Holy and He will be called the Son of God”.

Now also the Bible says in Matthew 1:18 this is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother Mary was engaged to be married to Joseph and that is a very key part of this text. Mary was engaged to be married to Joseph she was not married yet, so she was a virgin. She had no sexual relations with Joseph or anybody else and the text continues to say, “but before the marriage took place while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit”.

Now Mary was made pregnant in a miraculous way through the Holy Spirit. Allow me to say something profound here. I believe and this is nowhere to be read or anything, but I believe in my mind and in my spirit that this whole process of Mary being pregnant with Jesus to the point where she even delivered Jesus. I believe it was all a miracle process that Mary was a virgin throughout the entire process. I don’t believe that God wanted to take Mary’s virginity away from her future husband who is going to be Joseph. I believe God allowed Mary to be a virgin throughout all the process of the pregnancy of Jesus this is part of a miracle, but you see the Bible says in Hebrews 2:14 & 18 that “because God’s children are human beings made of flesh and blood” like you and I are “The Son of God also became flesh and blood” So there was no other way that Jesus had to come to this world but through a woman, because He had to be just like you and just like me and the text continue to say “for only as a human being could Jesus die and only by dying could He break the power of the devil which had the power of death only in this way could He set free all who have lived their lives as slaves fearing death”.

So, you see God could have made Jesus appear from one day to the next. He has the power to do that, that isn’t the problem. The issue is that God wanted to bring someone to this world who would be exactly the same as you and me so that He could understand the way we feel, so He could understand that when we are tempted and do things that we don’t want to do but do them. He wanted Jesus to know that feeling understand this completely and the only way He could do that was to be born like you and I were born of a woman and be flesh and blood like you are. The text continues to say there in Hebrews 2:16 “we also know the Son did not come to help Angels, He came to help the descendants of Abraham, therefore it was necessary for Him to be made in every respect like us. His brothers and sisters, so that He could be our merciful and faithful high priest before God then He could offer His sacrifice that will take away the sins of the people since He himself has gone through suffering and testing. He is able to help us when we are being tested” because God knows man. He knows the way we think and if Jesus would have appeared from one day to the next as a grown man to then die on the cross for you and me, you and I would have said “Well, Jesus doesn’t know what it is to be tempted, He doesn’t know what it feels like to be cold, He doesn’t know what it feels like to be sick” but Jesus knew all of that because He was born of a woman, had flesh and blood just like you and like me. So, He could totally understand our feeling, totally could relate to us.

This is the beauty of the whole thing. God made Jesus a man, He was a God-man, the Bible says that He was named Immanuel which meant God with the man. He lived among us, He lived with us, He felt what you and I felt, He understands us completely. So, the answer to the question is No! God did not have sexual relations with Mary and He could have chosen any other way to have Jesus come into this world to die for you and for me. But He did it the most perfect way so that Jesus could understand how you feel, Jesus could understand your questions because sometimes we have questions in the middle of the night that we say “Lord why do I feel this way, why does it have to be like this and Jesus then says you know what my son, you know what my brothers and sisters give me your burdens, carry my burden which is light, Jesus does that for you and me because He understands us, He comprehends the way you feel, the way you think because He was a man just like you and just like me.

So, I hope this answers your questions. If you have any other questions please let us know we are here to serve you. Let us pray so that we can end this segment “Lord God we thank you for this moment that You have given us to share with Your people today Lord and I pray Holy Spirit that You have spoken to us in a very deep and profound way that we might understand Your word because Your word says that you make everything clear to those who read it and those who abide with You. I ask that You be with the audience that is hearing us today that You might make them understand and feel that Jesus was just like us, so He could fully understand us, so He could fully comprehend us and yet be able to help us in the most powerful way. We ask you all of this in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit and we all say Amen”. Thank you once again for being with us and Jesus Christ for Muslims. We are here to serve you.
